San Thome Basilica, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India
San Thome Basilica is a Roman Catholic (Latin Rite) minor basilica in Santhome, in the city of Chennai (Madras), India. It was built in the 16th century by Portuguese explorers, and rebuilt again with the status of a cathedral by the British in 1893. The British version still stands today. It was designed in Neo-Gothic style, favoured by British architects in the late 19th century.
History
Christian tradition holds that that St. Thomas arrived in Kerala from Palestine in 52 A.D. preached between 52 A.D. and 72 A.D., when he was martyred on St. Thomas Mount. The basilica is built over the site where he was believed originally to be interred. San Thome Basilica is the principal church of the Madras-Mylapore Catholic Archdiocese. In 1956, Pope Pius XII raised the church to the status of a Minor Basilica, and on February 11, 2006, it was declared a national shrine by the Catholic Bishops' Conference of India. The San Thome Basilica is a pilgrimage centre for Christians in India. The church also has an attached museum.

Longest Time Kiss World Record attempt by Will Matty and Bobby NJ USA
In
2009, Germany's Nikola Matovic and Kristina Reinhart kissed for 32
hours, 7 minutes, 14 seconds. New Jersey college students and
self-professed LGBT activists Matty and Bobby are hoping to break that
Guinness World Record today with 33 hours of smooching. And no, they
aren't boyfriends. (Update: It's been rescheduled.)
They've
been training by standing still and staying awake. And if they don't
manage to break the record, they're committed to trying again. But what
about this boyfriend Bobby has? "Yes, I am in a relationship and my
boyfriend supports the cause completely," Bobby says. "We all know each
other, and we’re very close friends." (As for Matty, he'd "like to
keep the status of his personal life his own priority during this
excursion.")
So
the only question that remains is: Do they have to be tonguing each
other the whole time? Not necessarily, but their lips must stay
together.

Longest Continuous Broadcast World Record set by Nikora Curtis
A radio DJ in Tolaga Bay, near Gisborne, has broken the world record for the longest continuous broadcast.

delirious, but still dedicated – Nikora Curtis was on the airwaves for

World's First Terrifying Glass Bottom Hot Air Balloon launched
Weird
and wonderful shapes filled the skies as Europe's biggest hot air
balloon festival marked the golden jubilee of modern ballooning.
More
than half a million people were expected to attend the four-day
Bristol International Balloon Fiesta, held on a country estate in
Bristol, southwest England.
Some 150 balloons from around the world joined in at one of Britain's biggest outdoor events, which runs till Sunday.
Balloons from Dubai, France, the Netherlands, Switzerland and the United States were among those joining in the fun.
Bristol-based
Don Cameron, the world's biggest balloon manufacturer, is the event's
flight director, and at 71 is still in love with their charm.
"It's beautifully old-fashioned, gloriously obselete, a vintage way of flying," he told AFP.
"There
is a magic about flying in balloons because you're not rushing, you
can drift along quite slowly, lean over the edge of the basket, and
sometimes fly so low that you can chat to people on the ground."
This
year's festival marks 100 years of Bristol's key aviation industry --
Concorde was built here in the 1960s -- as well as the 50th anniversary
of modern ballooning.
In 1960, American Ed Yost first used a nylon balloon and propane gas on board.
Beforehand,
balloons dating back to the Montgolfier brothers' pioneering flight in
1783 were heated by a fire on the ground and were limited in how far
they could fly.
At
the Bristol fiesta, the balloons are inflated first with cold air,
before the pilots jump in the baskets. With repeated, fierce blasts of
propane gas flames that roar and hiss, the immense, bizarre shapes
gradually take form.
A
giant motorbike with a helmeted rider, a light bulb, a dog, a monster,
a Jaguar car, squares, a huge wine box and a green dragon slowly
emerge to fill the skyline.
The motorbike is one of the biggest special shapes ever built, while the dragon is Britain's only glass-bottomed balloon.
