The 59th edition of the Miss Universe 2010 pageant is currently underway in Las Vegas, with various stages of the competition happening for the past several weeks. August 16 was the day to show off national costumes. 83 contestants paraded in their national costumes at Mizuya Lounge of Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. Malika Menard, Miss France 2010

Miss Normandy, Malika Menard, 22, won the crown for the Miss France 2010 title last Saturday. For the first time this year, Miss France has been chosen by a vote conducted entirely by the public among five finalists who have themselves been designated in a mixed voting shared 50/50 between the public and the jury.

Miss Pole Dance Argentina 2009

The Miss Pole Dance Argentina 2009 competition was held in Bueno Aires on Tuesday, October 20th. 24-year-old Brazilian Rafaela Montenero took home the top prize. She had also won Brazil's Miss Pole Dancer 2009. The second prize was taken by 29-year-old Maria Luz Escalante of Argentina. Both women will compete in the world championships in London in May.

Miss International Queen 2009 is a transvestite beauty contest held annually in Thailand – a country famous for it’s gorgeous ladyboys and the transgender and transsexual culture. The finale of the 5th edition of the pageant was held on Oct 31 in Pattaya, Thailand, where Japan's Haruna Ai won the Miss International Queen 2009 crown beating Thailand's Kangsadal Wongducsadeekul. The Miss International Queen transsexuals and transvestites contest is aimed at the promotion of tolerance and positive attitude towards transsexuals and transvestites.

Miss Cicciona 2010: The Miss Chubby Italy beauty contes

The Miss Cicciona pageant is a beauty contest for overweight women. As in all past 20 editions of the pageant, there is only one condition for entry: you have to weigh more than 100 kilograms, or 15 and a half stone. This year a 33 year old Angela Scognamiglio bagged the title crown of "Miss Chubby" at the beauty contest held in the village of Forcoli, near Pisa. She weighs 170 kilograms (375 pounds).

30 contestants paraded before an audience of 2,500 at a local hotel, wearing gowns, or for those who cared to show more, undergarments. Some even dared a little glamour striptease. There is no big prize for the winner, just a huge cake to share around, and perhaps for all the contestants a boost in self-esteem in contrast to the mockery many obese face. "When we get on a bus, people nudge each other, and whisper, making fun of us, and it's the same on the beach," said redheaded Marilena Amato. "We are the victims of severe discrimination, it's as if we are second class citizens," said another contestant, Antonia Bartolo, a 37-year-old nurse from the Milan region.

This year 84 gorgeous ladies from as many countries and territories will compete with each other for the title. Miss US Alexandria Mills, dressed in a crisp white evening gown, was crowned the 60th Miss World 2010 on Saturday evening, defeating more than 100 other hopefuls at a glittering ceremony in southern China’s Sanya city. Mills, an 18-year-old from the southern US state of Kentucky, wept as outgoing Miss World Kaiane Aldorino of Gibraltar placed the tiara on her head and led her to a diamond-shaped throne marking the pageant's 60th anniversary.

The second place went to Emma Wareus of Botswana, and Adriana Vasini of Venezuela came third.
