The
New York funeral parlor body stealing scheme was uncovered by a NYC
Detective who noticed a concealed operating room within the funeral home
when he approached the owner about a fraud charge. The police became
suspicious and the grisly scheme finally came to light.
Bones
like these two samples from a "tissue bank" fetch high prices in the
medical field. A growing Black Market has arisen trafficking in such
body parts because, unlike organs that have to be taken from a live
donor, tissue, bones, and ligaments can be harvested from corpses.
Biomedical Tissue Services, whose founder has been arrested, would
receive upwards of $7,000 dollars for the tissues from each body
supplied by the alleged crooked funeral home director Joseph Nicelli.
